Studio – No Comply (video)

Wanted to make a video for this great track for some time. In the end just used various clips downloaded from YouTube, mostly footage of Gothenburg itself but also some tourism videos of Sweden from the 50s. It works pretty well most of the time -- the timelapse stuff is great (I sped it up even more in most cases to sync with the musical changes). New improved version of this video re-edited and re-uploaded to YouTube in September 2009.

Foreign music video channels online

I’ve used this site to put together a Windows Media Player playlist (also works with Winamp) featuring a selection of music video channels from around the world (mostly Europe), from TMF Belgium to France’s NRJ Groove to MTV India…

download Foreign Music playlist

download accompanying txt guide to channels (handy for knowing what the channels actually are as WMP only reads the stream filenames).

Hoping to add more to the list as I find them.

Heavenly Menace, Soft Neck Pink Back

2 new mash-ups from me to you:

Belinda Carlisle vs Moby & Kris Menace
That ‘Ooh Yeah’ remix is one of my favourite things from the last 18 months or so and it worked really well in the 08 Ultramix with Lady Gaga. Well here it is again this time with ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’. I started hearing the chorus of that in my head over this tune so what else to do but search for the acapella. I found both that and a decent quality rip of the video surprisingly easily and the edits came together in an hour or so which is pretty damn efficient. The video’s on the Flowplayer now (I really have to make that a bit bigger – new site design soon will include this).

Khia vs Soft Pink Truth
Khia’s ‘My Neck My Back’ gets the electro-glitchy treatment via ‘Everybody’s Soft’ – the bit from 2:10 to 3:04 is so freakin’ ROYAL yes? Big up Drew Daniel, and Khia of course.

Just to add to the huge stack of Coming Soons…I’m trying to put together a single mix featuring all the best bits from all the best mash-ups I’ve done over the last 10 years, and ignoring all the terrible stuff (there’s been a fair amount it’s true) as I currently be deeming this. Working title: “Ab0m1n0t10nz”. Mmm clever.

4 demos, 4 designs

What I’ve been up to lately.

0905 Posters

Preview of four poster and postcard designs largely inspired by the work of Otl Aicher and those old Pelican book cover designs from the 1960s.

And on the Flowplayer you’ll see the latest addition – four audio demos set to some cool animations I ripped from a few DVDs. The demos are all WIP loops with the exception of the fourth track but none are really serious efforts, just a collation of ideas and experiments over the last few years.

Track 1: “Whirly Bird”
Based on a sample of Count Basie’s jazz track of the same name. Just a simple old-skool piano house theme. Visuals are from Halas & Bachelor animation ‘The Magic Canvas’.

Track 2: “Supagirl (Riddim)”
Inspired by numerous R&B and hip-hop tracks from recent years, the most obvious being Missy’s ‘Pass That Dutch’ I suppose although worth noting that whereas that track’s bassline is the same note played three times in succession here I’ve opted for four. Stuck an extract of an acapella track that I thought suited it well so you get the idea. Visuals include extracts from Psy-Op’s “Popcorn”.

Track 3: “Total Recall”
Dubstep-influenced attempt, heavy on atmospherics and a sorrowful tone reminiscent of Burial. An OTT pastiche really but some potential. Visuals: Halas & Bachelor ‘The Figurehead’

Track 4: “Theme From SUAD”
SUAD being Shut Up & Dance, a raucous and ridiculous tribute to their old sound plus the much more recent Baltimore breaks-inspired ‘Frankenhouse’ stuff. Samples of Minnie Riperton, Fleetwood Mac and Harry James All Stars in there. Visuals: Halas & Bachelor ‘Hoffnung Symphony Orchestra’.

Lady GaGa videomashup

It may well get deleted soon but for now you can check the video edit I put together for one of the Ultramix 08 highlights -- ‘Just Dance’ over Midfield General’s ‘Disco Sirens’ and the Kris Menace mix of Moby’s ‘Ooh Yeah’. Fun fun (never mind that even if you liked the track 6 months ago you have no desire to hear it in any other context now heh).

It’s viewable in the Flowplayer on the right too.
